We’ve seen it all here at Wellington Barn, but Sarah and Jason certainly threw us a curveball when they decided to hold their wedding with us at Wellington Barn. The couple initially came to see us to discuss having their joint 50th birthdays here, but their plans soon changed to a “secret wedding”, something we have never had here before, so we were excited to say the least!
On Saturday 2nd April 2022, Sarah and Jason welcomed their guests to their “50th Birthday party” with glasses of fizz and bottled beers, as well as delicious canapes provided by our in-house caterers “Epic Caterers”.
After a short reception, our dedicated event manager then asked everyone to begin seating themselves for lunch, whilst Jason the groom, and his band began playing “Marry you” by Bruno Mars, where he then dropped to one knee and proposed to Sarah in front of all their guests!
After Sarah of course said yes, she slipped away to put on her wedding dress whilst Jason and his bandmates carried on playing for everyone. Sarah then appeared again in a wedding dress, to the amazement of their friends and family, and made her way to the front once more where the registrars appeared, and their ceremony began!
After the ceremony, guests all rushed to congratulate the couple, and express their surprise and amazement that it was kept from everyone successfully!
At 4pm, guests returned to their seats for the wedding breakfast. The tables were decorated by Sarah & Jason, with each table named after various runs and marathons that Sarah had taken part in.
Dinner was followed by the speeches. Sarah’s’ son gave a very touching speech about his admiration for his mother and thanked Jason for the way he has supported him over the years with his career aspirations.
After dinner, Jason and his band took to the mic again for some more excellent live music, before more guests arrived for the evening and then party really started!
The couple and several of their guests chose to glamp here at Wellington Barn the night of their wedding, which made for some more gorgeous shots to remember their special day, taken by the talented Kate Stuart.

“We came to view the barn whilst planning our joint 50th birthday party. Wellington Barn was the first venue we viewed and there was no need to view any others. We fell in love with the location and venue immediately.
It was whilst making out way back down the drive that we actually decided it would become a surprise wedding. This was just at the beginning of lockdown, so pretty much two years in the making.
Ed and Alice you were both absolutely amazing. We challenged you to help us organise a 50th birthday party that would become a surprise engagement and wedding – a pretty hefty task.
You were both fantastic in supporting us throughout. Nothing phased you, very accommodating to our every whim and you made the whole process pretty stress free.
We had an amazing day and there is nothing we would have changed, we cannot thank you enough for making the day so special.”
